Alumni were welcomed home this past Saturday for Homecoming 2016. From reunions to Scot Fest to the basketball game, it was a full day of fun for the whole family.
This year the alumni office partnered with undergraduate admissions to host a day full of excitement for alumni, parents, prospective students and families. Undergraduate admissions welcomed prospective students and their families to campus for information sessions, campus entertainment and more as they prepare to apply to UCR for the upcoming fall 2017 admission term. Our alumni and parents were able to show these families just what it means to be part of the Highlander family!
We had a full day for our alumni and parents. The day started with a tour of the Citrus Variety Collection where Tracy Kahn, the collection curator, educated guests on the citrus that UCR grows and how it is used. Guests tried different citrus and walked through the groves seeing the growing source first hand. The Parents Association then kicked off Parent & Family Day with their annual fall meeting where parents heard from Chancellor Wilcox and featured speaker Dr. DiPatrizio and had the chance to win great UCR prizes. The rest of the morning included sessions for parents and alumni that included experiencing a lab, a tour of the botanic garden tour led by the gardens docents, art exhibitions, a session on learning about avocado varieties and campus tours.
Scot Fest took place during the afternoon where alumni and families could play games for UCR prizes such as foam swords, slap bracelets, pennants, and more! The inflatables, rock wall, balloon artist, caricature and ferris wheel were all a big hit. Alumni grabbed their Homecoming t-shirts and attended the pep-rally in preparation for the big game that night.
Throughout the day special reunions were held and hosted by our Black Alumni group which was reinstated this year, College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, campus tours, and Chicano and Latino Alumni where they celebrated 45 years with a dinner and dance.
The night ended with the men’s basketball game against Fresno Pacific where the Highlander’s had a 96-50 Homecoming victory.
Thank you to all of our alumni and parents that volunteered to make Homecoming such a huge success! We hope you all join us for Homecoming next year on November 18, 2017!
