Pam was an amazing scientist and educator. I knew her through my community engagement activities at UC Riverside. She had boundless energy and the incredible ability to communicate science to anyone of any age! She was a champion and role model for young women with an interest in the sciences and education. She was also a mentor to many of our faculty and students who shared her belief that science could be and should be shared with the public. I always enjoyed talking with Pam about opportunities to bring science opportunities into K-12 schools in the Inland Empire or to the public more generally. I will miss Pam as much for her engaging personality and her mentorship, as I will for all the very positive connections that she created between our UC Riverside campus and the community around us.

Pam was a great UCR alum. I had the honor and pleasure to take a math class from her in the early 80s, then serve on the UCR Alumni Association Board with her 30 years later. She was such a warm and fun person that helped so many in the teaching profession. She will be missed. Ray Cruz 85

    Dear Steve,
Please accept my sincere condolence for the loss of your Pamela, and my heartfelt hope that you and your family will find peace and comfort in the days to come. When I was an undergraduate student at UCR in the ’80’s and when I worked for my UCR dept in the ’90’s and early 2000’s as a graduate student, I had several academic opportunities to interact with Pamela. Even from the time that I was an undergraduate in the late 1980’s, I have always remembered Pamela with respect and admiration. I am sorry to learn of her passing, and I am grateful for Pamela as a model, for young female academics decades ago, when I was young.

    With compassion,
    Leslie Hayes
UCR undergraduate, Dept of Religious Studies, 1989
